The Last Salute

At 8 pm on Monday 18th of September along with many others across the nation, the armed Forces Support Group (AFSG) supported the Deputy Mayor of Pendle Cllr Brian Newman, in a short Vigil for the late Queen.

A message of both Condolence for her Majesty, and support for the new King Charles lll was read out to the group who had gathered for this event including a number of children, and 3 Police Officers from the evening patrol.

At exactly 8pm the last post was played by Mr David Gawthorpe, this was for the AFSG and the Pendle area, a last salute to Her Majesty, who will be greatly missed.

Mr Gawthorpe brought a touch of history with him, he played the last post on a Cornet, that was made in 1926 the year the queen was born, it was made by the company Boosey, who made instruments for the Royal family and the military, and originally played by a Royal Marine.

The event finished with 3 cheers for the King
