The Armed Forces Support Group (AFSG) has lost a stalwart supporter in Oct 22. Joe (Joseph) Townson was a retained Fire Fighter, we believe in the Accrington area, and he also lived on Fir Street Nelson, and was a well known character in the Nelson area. Joe became a member of the Royal British legion (RBL) many years ago and attended the many various parades and functions locally even when RBL morphed into the Armed Forces Support Group.
Although Joe suffered for visual impairment and other health issues, he willingly committed to helping the group where he could. Joe did not serve in the Military, but as a Blue Light Veteran he was welcomed into the group as indeed any other Blue Light Veterans would be, Joe will be sadly missed.
