Update: A 3km protection zone and a 10km surveillance zone have been put in place around the premises (effective from 17:00 on the 10th March) All poultry will be humanely culled.

Highly pathogenic avian influenza H5N1 has been confirmed at a premises near Southwaite, Eden, Cumbria. All bird keepers should remain vigilant and follow stringent biosecurity measures to prevent future outbreaks. More information is available on GOV.​UK: https://www.gov.uk/bird-flu

Enhancements to the Avian Influenza Licensing Service

APHA’s Avian Influenza Licensing Service allows you to apply for a licence online to get exemption from current disease control restrictions.
