A case of highly pathogenic avian influenza H5N1 has been confirmed in a flock of non-commercial captive birds near Bridgwater, Somerset, Somerset. A 3km Captive Bird (Monitoring) Controlled Zone has been put in place around the premises.

An Avian Influenza Prevention Zone (AIPZ) with mandatory housing measures is also in force in England and Wales. An Avian Influenza Prevention Zone (AIPZ) with mandatory biosecurity measures is also in force across Great Britain.

All bird keepers must follow stringent biosecurity measures, any regional housing measures/Protection/Surveillance Zone restrictions in their area to prevent future outbreaks.
